Fayette County, Indiana was created by the General Assembly in 1819 and Connersville was chosen as the county seat.
Connersville, Indiana hosts many annual events including Thunder in the Park, Fall Festival, Winterfest, and the Heritage Festival.
Connersville is also home to the Whitewater Valley Railroad. The Whitewater Valley Railroad was constructed in 1867 and connected with the I&C main line at Valley Junction that ran trains into Cincinnati. The railroad stopped service to passengers in 1933 but continued transporting local freight until 1972. The current Whitewater Valley Railroad is a not-for-profit corporation that runs historically significant diesel locomotives with open window coaches between Connersville and Metamora.
